The usual dose is to take a 7.5mg tablet just before going to bed. It takes around 1 hour to work. A lower dose of 3.75mg may be recommended to begin with if a patient is over 65 years old or have kidney or liver problems. Zopiclone should usually not be taken for more than 7 to 10 consecutive days. It should be used only by people for whom disturbed sleep results in problems functioning during the day. This medication is usually taken for short periods of up to 4 weeks. Do not increase the dose or take this for longer than prescribed. Tolerance may develop with long-term or excessive use making it less effective.
